Technical Journal Announcement Press Release March 2014

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

IICRC Launches Premier Issue of The Journal
New technical journal offers in-depth articles on the cleaning, restoration and inspection industries

Vancouver, Wash. — March, 3, 2014— The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) has announced the publication of the inaugural issue of its peer-reviewed technical journal, The Journal of Cleaning, Restoration & Inspection (The Journal). Mailed in late February, the inaugural issue features four technical, peer-reviewed articles from industry experts focusing on the four disciplines represented by the Institute: hard-surface cleaning, textile cleaning, disaster restoration and inspection.

“Publishing a peer-reviewed technical journal is a great accomplishment for not only the Institute, but the industry as a whole,” said Tony Wheelwright, IICRC Chairman. “Because The Journal is the first and only publication of its kind in this industry, this is an exciting time for all of us.”

The Journal is a new benefit for IICRC Certified Firms, master cleaners and restorers, inspectors, and instructors and schools, all of whom will receive complimentary print copies. In addition, all current registrants of the Institute will have free access to the electronic version. It will publish six times per year.

The inaugural issue includes the following articles:

  • “The Role of Vapor Pressure and Enthalpy in Drying Wood-Based Products,” written by Jerry Blaylock
  • “The ANSI/IICRC S800 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Inspection of Textile Floorcovering,” written by Bill Doan and Lew Migliori
  • “Technical Considerations Concerning Hardwood Floor Cleaning and Restoration in Residential Settings,” written by Roy Reichow
  • “Key Performance Characteristics of Synthetic Textile Fibers,” written by J.R. Webster

To view the electronic version of The Journal, visit http://www.iicrc.org/thejournal/.

The Journal is edited by John Downey, the founder and former editor and publisher of Cleanfax, and is published under contract to the Institute by the orangetap division of BNP Media.

Downey expressed satisfaction that the first issue of The Journal was at last complete and in the mail. “The Journal is the fulfillment of a mission passed onto me by Dr. Michael Berry more than two decades ago,” Downey said. “Thanks to the IICRC, the cleaning, restoration and inspection industries finally have a journal that will serve as both a forum and repository for peer-reviewed technical and scientific information. I’ve spoken with Dr. Berry and he is very pleased that his vision has been realized,” he added.
