Summit Conference Wrap Up

The Summit at Lone Mountain – It’s a Wrap!
After two days of science-based presentations from the leading minds in the world of cleaning and disaster restoration, the second-annual IICRC Technical Conference came to a successful close on August 11.
With nearly 80 attendees, conference attendees were treated to a variety of speakers discussing cutting-edge issues and challenges facing the industry, as well as presentations based on new, original research. Attendees included seasoned professionals, educators, trainers, consultants and leaders in the shared industries of cleaning and disaster restoration.
Following opening remarks on the morning of Aug. 10 from Summit Conference Chairman John Downey and IICRC Chairman Pete Duncanson, the conference kicked off with keynote speakers Patricia Olinger (Emery University) and John Barrett (ISSA). Their keynote addresses, “Teamwork and Network: A Biosafety Perspective” and “Networking and Connectivity: An Essential Element of 21st Century Business” respectively, were well-attended and set the tone for the high-level presentations to follow.
Day one general session presentations, “An Overview of Nanotechnology in Cleaning & Restoration” with Collin Anderson Ph.D., and “The Emerging Role of Robotics in Cleaning & Restoration” with Christian Cornelius-Knudsen, were immediately followed by four Restoration & Remediation Symposium breakout presentations running concurrently with four Cleaning Symposium breakout presentations.
Day two consisted of several more symposium breakouts as well as the CIRI Science General Session, featuring “Real-Time Bioaerosol Monitoring of High-Density Public Environments” with Mark Hernandez Ph.D., and “Cleaning, Disinfection and the Human Microbiome” with Greg Whiteley Ph.D.
“This year’s conference was just what we were hoping for,” said John Downey, Summit Conference Chairman. “The level of attendee participation, not only during the presentations, but during the social functions, really spoke to the level of connection and collaboration between those in the industry and demonstrated the value of the conference. We were all there to learn from each other and that’s exactly what we did.”
