Get to Know the IICRC Board of Directors

Made up of carpet cleaners, restorers, instructors and small business owners, the IICRC Board of Directors is comprised of 15 industry leaders elected by the IICRC’s Shareholders.

Within the Board of Directors is the Executive Committee, or Officers, which includes: the Chairman, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Third Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Past Chairman. The Executive Committee helps run the day-to-day operations of the organization, and together with the Board, represents the interests of all IICRC registrants.

Tasked with representing the various interests of the registrants, the Board helps to shape future policies of the organization and uphold the standards that shape the industry. Additionally, each major decision made within the organization is brought before both the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.

The Institute also has a President who reports to the Board and its Chairman. Working with the Board, the President actively provides overall leadership, determines direction and helps set policy for the IICRC. Additionally, the President manages the day-to-day operations of the Institute as well as the Global Resource Center staff.

Meet your 2016/2017 Board of Directors:

Pete Duncanson, Chairman and member of the Executive Committee
Pete first joined the IICRC Board of Directors in 2009, and is a Master Water Restorer, Master Fire and Smoke Restorer, Master Textile Cleaner and CMRS.

Pete’s “day job” is as a Director of Business Operations for ServiceMaster Restore.  Pete has been in his current position for over 16 years and a total of 22 years at ServiceMaster Corporate (with 10 previous years as a franchisee). Altogether, Pete has a total of 32 years with ServiceMaster.

Pete has served as vice president of operations for Society of Cleaning and Restoration Technicians (SCRT), corporate representative to Restoration Industry Association (RIA) and IAQA (Indoor Air Quality Association), and outreach instructor for Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA). All of these connections give Pete a broad knowledge base to gather information from and to remain informed about the industry.

Kevin Pearson, First Vice President, Executive Committee
In addition to being the IICRC’s First Vice President and member of the Executive Committee, Kevin serves as the Chair of the Certified Firm Committee and will be the Vice Chair for the current revision of the ANSI/IICRC S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration.

Kevin is also the president of Pearson Carpet Care in Humble, Texas, as well as a board member for the Professional Cleaning & Restoration Alliance. Kevin has also served on the S100 (Professional Carpet Cleaning) and S800:2014 (Carpet Inspection) Standard revision committees.

Craig Kersemeier, Second Vice President, Executive Committee
As a second-generation leader of K-tech Kleening Systems, Craig has been involved in the cleaning and restoration industry is whole life.

Craig has held many leadership positions in the industry – from his current positions with IICRC and SCRT (president), to ICRA, MCRA and Connection Events.

Craig has also worked with manufacturers to help develop and test restoration equipment, many of which are in the market, and has provided expert witness services with insurance companies.

Craig also owns a charity, K-tech Charities, which he started in 2006. Through various fundraisers, his company, family and friends have raised over $900,000 for Breast Cancer, local Food Pantries and St. Jude. In November 2016, he received a Jefferson Award for North Central Wisconsin and will be traveling in June 2017 to Washington, DC to receive the award.

Paul Pearce, Third Vice President, Executive Committee
Paul is located in the United Kingdom and is an IICRC-approved Instructor for the Carpet Cleaning Technician, Commercial Carpet Maintenance Technician and Upholstery & Fabric Cleaning Technician courses.  Additionally, Paul is a cleaning consultant, advising people how to maintain their soft furnishings both at high end and commercial properties. He also conducts carpet inspections.

Apart from being the technical director and co-secretary for the National Carpet Cleaners Association (NCCA), Paul is also a director and past chair of the British Cleaning Council – an organization of associations, suppliers, manufacturers and interested parties involved in the cleaning industry within the United Kingdom.

Joe Dobbins, Treasurer, Executive Committee
Joe first joined the board in 2002 for a six-year tenure serving as an Executive Officer as Chairman of Certification Council. Since returning to the Board in 2013, Joe was elected to serves as IICRC Treasurer in the Executive Committee, and also currently serves as Division Chair for the restoration segment of courses within IICRC training and Vice-Chair for Education and Exams.  

Joe is an IICRC-approved instructor for multiple cleaning and restoration courses and has been teaching since 1992. He has also served as Certification Council Vice-Chair, held Task Force leadership positions in the development of multiple IICRC courses, served as a Division Chair for many divisional technical courses and served as the Technical Advisory Chair for multiple IICRC courses.
Personal business included owner/operator of a cleaning, reconstruction, and remediation/restoration company for 25 years. After retirement from business, employment included time as a property claims adjuster with a major insurance company during 2007 – 2008. Currently, love of teaching brought Joe back to full-time instruction since 2009 in addition to serving as expert witness in litigation and court cases.

Matt Cole, Secretary, Executive Committee
Matt has been in the inspection, cleaning and restoration industry for 36 years, and is an IICRC Master Textile Cleaner, Master Water Restorer and a certified Master Rug Cleaner.

In addition to serving on the IICRC Board of Directors, Matt also serves on the Instructors and Schools committee and has been a Carpet & FabriCare Institute (CFI) board member since 2008 – currently serving as president.

Matt has also been the owner of a carpet and upholstery business for 33 years and owner of a rug cleaning business for three. In his spare time, Matt enjoys his 1968 Camaro and 2005 Corvette.

Jeff Bishop, Director
Jeff grew up in Albany, Ga. and is a second-generation cleaner/restorer. He has developed several of the courses and examinations leading to industry certification, while writing and editing eleven industry standards.

Jeff’s teaching career began in 1973, while organizing his cleaning and restoration, and chemical and equipment manufacturing businesses. Since then he has produced twelve books on cleaning, flooring inspection and disaster restoration.

Before semi-retirement in 2014, Jeff taught over 50 courses annually in 10 IICRC-approved categories. He still holds the MTC, MWR, MSR and SCI designations and continues to serve as SCRT Technical Advisor. He currently serves as a consultant and expert witness to carpet and fabric manufacturers, insurance companies and a variety of city, state and federal disaster relief agencies. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors, Jeff also serves as the SCI and Education and Exams Committee Chair, as well as a SCRT Shareholder representative and Board Member.

Dennis Blake, Director
Dennis is a pillar of the industry, holding 14 IICRC certifications and owning his own restoration company, Better Floors & Restorations, for over 40 years.

As a board member in the early 1990′s, Dennis was responsible for bringing in the World Floor Covering Association as a shareholder. Dennis is also often called on by numerous insurance companies and individuals for his expert opinion as a consultant.

Not only is Dennis a widely known and respected individual in the restoration and flooring industries, he is a long term member, past president and award winner in the Rotary club, and a member of his City Council where he serves his community both locally and nationally.

Jessika James, Director
Jessika has been in the cleaning and restoration industry for over 32 years, opening her first carpet and upholstery cleaning company along with her brother in 1984. She has owned and operated several successful disaster restoration and bio-remediation businesses in the northern California bay area.
Among her many accomplishments in the industry, Jessika has earned the status of IICRC Approved Instructor and teaches CCT, CCMT, UFT, OCT, FSRT, and WRT. She is an IICRC Master Textile Cleaner, Master Water Restorer, Master Fire & Smoke Restorer, Antimicrobial Remediation Specialist, Council Certified Indoor Environmentalist, Mold Remediator and Certified Mold Professional.
Jessika has managed the education programs for industry leaders such as Prochem, and was the past Senior Training Specialist for Kärcher, North America. Presently, she is working as an industry inspector, consultant, and independent training contractor.
Jessika is very active in the industry and is the UFT and CCMT Committee Chair, and volunteers her time speaking at industry events such as The Experience, ISSA, CFI and other trade association education events. In 2016 Jessika was recognized by Restoration and Remediation magazine  as one of North America's top three women in the industry in their “Recognizing Women in Restoration—The Best of the Best 2016” article.

Craig Jasper, Director
Craig first joined the Board of Directors in 2009. Since joining, Craig has served as a First Vice President and is currently Chair of the Marketing Committee.

Craig is an IICRC-approved Instructor and a Master Textile Cleaner, Master Fire and Smoke Restorer and Master Water Restorer.

Scott Mitseff, Director
Scott has been in the inspection, cleaning and restoration industry for 25 years and is an (IICRC) Master Water Restorer, Master Smoke & Fire Restorer, Master Textile Cleaner and a Certified Textile Pro Technician.

Scott has been involved in the Carpet Cleaners Institute of the Northwest (CCINW) for the past 20 years and currently serves as their President as well as a shareholder representative.

Scott has also been the owner of a carpet and fine fabric/upholstery, hardwood floor cleaning, and stone/tile cleaning and polishing business since 1991, as well as owner of a rug cleaning business for the past 10 years.

In his spare time, Scott is an accomplished long distance endurance motorcycle rider (with trips averaging over 1,000 miles in 24-hours) and a premier member of the International Iron Butt Association (IBA).

Patrick Moffett, Director

Patrick was elected to the Board of Directors in 2009 and is active on the Water Damage Restoration Technician and Applied Microbial Remediation Technician committees.

In the past 35 years Patrick has held several jobs, such as a paramedic, hospital infection control practitioner, hazardous materials expert, environmental/industrial hygienist, general contractor and restoration professional. More recently, Patrick has become an expert in litigation, working with cases involving construction defects, cause and origin, environmental assessment/testing and standards of care.

Patrick also teaches environmental mitigation classes across the U.S., Canada and U.K. through various associations, and teaches as a faculty member of California State University.

Steve Moran, Director
Steve is the owner/founder of A Cleaner Carpet LLC, Flood Masters of Colorado and the Denver Rug Cleaning & Repair Company. He is the past President of The Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Association PCUCA (PACR), and the Treasurer for ICRA-International Cleaning & Restoration Association. He also teaches continuing education classes to insurance agents/adjusters and realtors on water damage and mold mitigation.

Steve’s connections within the trade associations and the community he works in offer a broad view of perspectives from owners, technicians and potential clients from for the cleaning and restoration industry.

Steve's first IICRC Certification was in 1998 is a Master Textile Cleaner and A Health/Safety class from Master Restorer Status.

Robert Pettyjohn, Director
Robert began Pettyjohn’s Cleaning & Restoration out of their family’s minivan in 1989. He has since earned his IICRC Master Cleaner, Master Water Restorer and Master Fire and Smoke Restorer certifications, and is an RIA Certified Water Loss Specialist and a Certified Master Rug Cleaner. Robert has also served as President of the Mid-South Professional Cleaners Association where he received the prestigious Dick Bernson Award.

Robert Pettyjohn was raised in Camden, S.C. and graduated from Gardner Webb College in Boiling Springs, N.C. in 1974. It was there he met his wife of 38 years, Karen Chapman. Robert and Karen live in Wake Forest, N.C., and have two daughters, Katie and Wendy, and three grandchildren.

Pettyjohn considers his election to the IICRC Board as “one of the highest honors” of his 27 years in this industry.

Carey Vermeulen, Director
Carey has been a volunteer with the IICRC since 1991 and has served 17 of those years as a Board member, five years as Vice President and three years as President.

Carey has been involved in the development of IICRC/ANSI S500 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Water Damage Restoration, IICRC/ANSI S520 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Mold Remediation, IICRC/ANSI S100 Standard and Reference Guide for Professional Carpet Cleaning and was the Chair of the IICRC S300 Standard and Reference guide for Professional Upholstery Cleaning.

Today Carey is among the busiest IICRC instructors averaging more than 70 classes a year primarily for the restoration and insurance industries, and maintains one of the highest student pass rates. Carey continues to volunteer as a public speaker at industry related events, writes technical articles and provides consulting services to the restoration, cleaning and insurance industries.

James Tole, Honorary Board Member

James has been in the cleaning and restoration Industry for 30 years and has trained hundreds of companies in the USA and Canada. He has extensive field and management experience in the handling of contents after insured losses and specializes in packout procedures, individual job management, contents estimating and inventory software.

James is also a chemical engineering graduate with a great understanding of the chemistries and processes for use in hands-on cleaning. James is an IICRC Instructor as well as an affiliated instructor with Hydramaster Corporation, Clean Aid and Fireline training centers. James brings to his courses a unique compilation of practical exposure and practices based on ‘the science of cleaning’ targeted towards increasing technician, manager and supervisory skills and efficiency.

Richard Greene, President
Prior to joining IICRC, Richard was the CEO of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) headquartered in Saint Louis, Mo.  

Richard has over twenty years of executive management experience leading local, state and national trade associations primarily focusing his efforts to help and support small business.  His leadership positions include managing several local chambers of commerce, a state-wide construction related trade association, urban redevelopment agencies, and a national trade association.

He has also earned the prestigious CAE (Certified Association Executive) designation from the American Society of Association Executives recognizing his proficiency, professionalism, and expertise in the nonprofit/association management industry.
