Keith Williams Award Winner

The IICRC is pleased to name James R. Carfield as the 2016 Keith Williams Award winner. The annual award is reserved for individuals who have made significant technical contributions to the inspection, cleaning and restoration industry.

Jim founded JR Flooring in the 1970s to address cleaning, restoration, retail floor covering and installation. He grew JR Flooring from a two-vehicle company to a successful, multi-vehicle operation, and retired from the business in 2015.

Early on in his involvement with the IICRC, Jim assisted in updating the newly formed Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician (RRT) course syllabus and exam. He helped take RRT instruction to the next level by building a demonstration platform and providing carpet, cushion, moldings and tools for hands-on demonstration of installation techniques. Jim’s dedication to the industry is clear in his students’ praise for his highly practical and patient approach to communicating and demonstrating repair and reinstallation techniques.

Jim has served the IICRC as Chair of the RRT Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), and has continued to support other RRT TAC Chairs after they became his successor. Most recently, he provided invaluable input on the BSR S600, installation standard, and the ANSI/IICRC S800, inspection standard. Even after his retirement, Jim has continued to serve on multiple TACs.

He has also authored numerous technical articles, worked with the Carpet and Rug Institute in developing the original CRI 104 and 105, residential and commercial installation standards, and been an extremely supportive member of the Society of Cleaning and Restoration Technicians since the 1980s.

To honor his contributions, Jim will be presented with a special plaque during the IICRC’s fall meetings.
