IICRC International Spotlight:

Andrew Bartlett
Director and Senior Technician at Restoraction Limited

How did you land in this industry?
By accident, really. Following a major career change in 2002, I started a small maintenance and carpet cleaning business where Chris Netherton asked me to join a newly created damage restoration (DR) network once having completed the basic IICRC training. Since then, I've been hooked and my son has followed me into the business.

If you could give one piece of advice to a young professional starting out in the business, what would it be
Get some experience in an allied skill. In particular, something related to building construction or maintenance.

What do you like best about your job?
Most definitely the variety of challenges met. In just the past few months, our team has been involved in getting a fire-damaged jeweler’s shop back into business, cleaning a large house full of antiques covered in dust after a "builder's accident," drying out a concrete sub floor after a major escape of water, and cleaning a large volume of Oriental, antique and contemporary rugs at our specialist plant.

How are you involved with the IICRC?
All of our technicians are IICRC-qualified in fire- and water-damage restoration and we continue to advance and maintain our skill base by attending appropriate classes.

What is your dream
Having enough time in the day for work or play!
