December MoU Spotlight

IICRC MoU Spotlight

What is an MoU? An MoU is a Memorandum of Understanding. The IICRC forms strategic partnerships through the use of MoUs with organizations that lead to the Institute’s standards and certifications use in other industries. MoUs also expand the global reach and value of the Institute by fostering long-term relationships in other countries with organizations that share our mission and values.

As part of an ongoing series, the Institute will highlight a new MoU in each issue of the IICRCToday. Who’s up this month? The Flooring Contractors Association.

Flooring Contractors Association (FCICA)
Mike Newberry, Chairman

What is FCICA / what is your mission?
FCICA, the Flooring Contractors Association, is an international association organized to provide a unique network for problem solving, education and support, to enhance their members’ businesses and the flooring industry.

Our vision is to be recognized by the floor covering design and construction industries as the commercial flooring contractors’ organization, providing the highest level of installation expertise, solutions and opportunities to network with industry experts.

FCICA was officially incorporated on July 1, 1982. Prior to this time, numerous problems confronted the industry including a lack of minimum standards, unclear specifications, no uniform training and the need for quality craftsmanship. Since then, FCICA has expanded its association to reach members in 34 states, plus Burma, Guam and Canada.

Who is FCICA’s audience?
FCICA is the only association with the singular purpose to promote and represent the commercial floor covering industry. Our contractor members, complimented by manufacturer, distributor, and consultant members, bring hundreds of years of experience to the table and represent some of the brightest and most dedicated people in the industry.

What are three things FICIA is working on in the upcoming year?
FCICA is constantly working to improve the commercial flooring industry. This coming year, we have several projects on our agenda including our annual convention, the CIM Program and the Commercial Flooring Resource Guide.

Coming this March, we’ll host the Commercial Flooring Tradeshow and 34th Annual Convention at Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. March 6-9, 2016. The theme for the four-day event is “Back to the Basics” and will feature the tradeshow, five educational sessions, two roundtables, industry networking opportunities and multiple optional tours. Every year, the FCICA Annual Convention offers leaders in the flooring industry a chance to network with others in the field, as well as multiple educational opportunities including learning about the newest products available.

One of our newest educational opportunities available is the Certified Installation Manager (CIM) Program. The CIM Program is a completely online program specifically created for the commercial flooring installation manager that features training modules led by experts that speak from years of floor covering installation experience. The purpose of this program is to address the need for a standard skill set for installation managers with an industry recognized-certification program. Currently 10 candidates have completed the program with many more working their way toward their CIM designation.

The Commercial Flooring Resource Guide is hosted online and serves as a powerful tool to locate contractors, consultants, distributors, manufacturers and others servicing the commercial floor covering industry in order to meet the user’s project needs. Flooring industry professionals, architects and consumers can utilize the Commercial Flooring Resource Guide to research contractors and installers by project type and flooring products installed, manufactures by product type, distributors by state, as well as locate consultants, inspectors and trainers.
